In 1998, several sites in France were added to the UNESCO World Heritage Sites under the description: Routes of Santiago de Compostela in France. They are places related to the pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela in Western Spain, a part of the Way of Saint James. Usually they are churches or hospitals.
The photos are set in the 4 ancient routes through France: 1 Via Turonensis (Paris, Tours, Poitiers, Bordeaux) 2 Via Lemovicensis (Vezelay, Limoges, Perigueux, La Reole) 3 Via Podiensis (Le Puy en Velay, Aubrac, Sainte Foy, Cahors, Condom) 4 Via Tolosana (Arles, Toulouse, Oloron Sainte Marie)
In contradiction to the rest of the website, the places are not in alphabetical order but ordered in the direction to Santiago de Compostela.
